We are a community based transition program designed to assist in the transition from school to adult life. The Transitional Educational Program is a collaborative effort between students, families, cooperating school districts, and adult service providers. The program for individual students uses a person-centered approach in which the individual’s needs and desires are designed by the student and his/her team.
Our Teaching Domains
Independent Living - Community - Leisure - Employment - Education/Training - Physical/Emotional Health
INDEPENDENT LIVING
Students in RISE build the skills needed for greater independence in everyday life. Through hands-on instruction and real-world practice, students learn skills such as meal preparation, budgeting, shopping, personal care, cleaning routines, transportation use, communication, self-advocacy, and managing daily responsibilities. Our goal is to help students gain confidence and increase independence at home and in the community.
EDUCATION & TRAINING
RISE helps students explore future education and training opportunities that match their strengths, interests, and goals. Students participate in career exploration, workplace readiness activities, guest speakers, college and program tours, and community partnerships that expose them to a variety of pathways after high school. We focus on helping students identify realistic next steps and develop the skills needed for lifelong learning and success.
RECREATION & LEISURE
We believe meaningful leisure and recreation opportunities are an important part of adult life. Students explore hobbies, fitness, clubs, social activities, volunteer opportunities, and community events that align with their interests. Through community-based instruction and group activities, students learn how to safely and independently access recreation opportunities while building friendships, communication skills, and community connections.
EMPLOYMENT SKILLS
Employment preparation is a major focus of the RISE program. Students participate in hands-on job training, school-based enterprises, job shadows, internships, and community work experiences tailored to their individual strengths and interests. Students learn workplace expectations, communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, and job-specific skills with support from staff and job coaches as needed. Our goal is to help students become as independent and successful as possible in the workplace.
