K-5 Mathematics

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we begin the 2026-2027 school year, our elementary campuses are embarking on a significant initiative to strengthen student learning in mathematics by implementing the new state-aligned Bluebonnet curriculum.  We believe in providing the highest quality education, and we believe this new framework will build foundational skills necessary for long-term academic success.

A Period of Transition

We want to be transparent as we implement this change.  A new, more rigorous curriculum is a major shift: both teachers and students will be adapting to new instructional methods and more complex, high-quality materials.  

During the first year of such a transition, it is common to see a temporary “implementation dip” in assessment scores and student performance. We view this not as a setback, but as the essential groundwork for the substantial academic growth that follows a major upgrade in the standards for instructional delivery. Think of it like taking a step back to take steps forward-we are adapting to a more challenging curriculum to yield better results once everyone is comfortable with the new approach.

Supporting Your Child

Along with Region 6 Service Center, we are providing our teachers with extensive training and support to make this transition as smooth as possible.  We encourage you to support your child by:

• Engaging in Dialogue: Ask your child to explain the “how” and “why behind the math problems they are solving

• Encouraging Persistence: Homework may look different than in previous years.  If your child struggles, encourage them to note their questions to share with their teacher the next day.

• Staying Connected: Maintain open communication with your child’s teacher regarding their progress and classroom experience
