We are so excited to have you work with us as your student begins learning an instrument. Whether this is your first time with a child learning an instrument, or you have been around the block a time or two, we are excited to offer some ideas on how you can help your child succeed in band!
Students will receive one lesson each cycle with one of the band directors. See the linked schedule for their assigned lesson group and cycle day!
Support your student and always be positive (even if the sounds they make don't sound like music at first)
Acknowledge the progress that your student is making. They will be working hard!
Visit the instrument resource page on this website to learn more about your child's instrument, how to care for it, and how to play it!
Set a designated practice space in your home
Limit distractions during practice time
Try to practice a little bit each day or every other day, rather than practicing for long periods of time every now and then
Work with your child as they practice. Review the practice strategies they will learn in band with them and try to help them do the same at home.
Students will have goals/assignments. Remind them that while it is great to have fun while they practice, they still need to remember their weekly goals!
Have your child teach you something about their instrument or how to play a song!
Communicate with the band directors whenever you have questions or concerns. We are here to help and work together to help your child succeed!
All students need a lesson book for band.
