On Wednesday the 6th and Thursday the 7th of December, the music department performed their second annual Christmas performance since COVID 19. The assembly hall was full and over 400 People attended from across the Seaham community to watch the riveting performance. Many students from different year groups came together to show what they had been working on throughout the year. Many parents said it was the best show so far and they could almost feel the emotion which went into each song. This just proves the dedication of the music department and all those who helped in this huge success of a production.
Harry Purvis from Year Ten said the show “Has been a challenge of which the students have been brought together as a group. The support from staff and other students in the music department is unmatched by the rest of the school”.
Lois said “it is nice to see so many people involved in the show and I'm glad to be a part of it.”
Ruby exclaimed the show “allowed us to show everyone what we love to do.”
We are so proud of those who have taken part in the performance and hope they have enjoyed it as thoroughly as the rest of us. Well done for your effort this past year!
The art department took 50 of the school's year ten students to the northern school of art to experience what it's like in further education in the creative arts. Throughout the day, the students split, art students doing a series of drawings experimenting using different materials such as ink, watercolour and finewriter, while the photography students completed a series of tasks across the building, taking photos of objects around the college, as well as getting a sense of the school and what it may include. Overall, most had very positive reviews for the trip and thought it was a very informative experience. The art department hopes the trip will help narrow down the students' choices for further education, to enable them to progress into the people they aspire to be one day.

Recently, PlayStation introduced a new game called Spiderman 2. The continuation from Spiderman and Spiderman Miles Morales, where Peter Parker and Miles Morales work together once again to fight crime in Brooklyn and Queens, mainly focusing on Manhattan, as friendly neighbourhood Spidermen. Did you ever get a package delivered to your home and wonder about all the people it took to get it there? UPS is one company that delivers packages to homes from businesses, and they just opened a unique warehouse in Kentucky, USA. The facility will use Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Robotics to process over 350,000 packages each day. The work will be done by just 200 employees assisted by 3000 robot employees. Nicknamed “cobots,” these robots can roll around the warehouse picking up items and delivering them to human workers who put them in boxes. Some robots will even be loading the packages onto trucks for shipment. The robots increase the speed and accuracy of orders. Most importantly, by doing the difficult heavy lifting, they decrease worker injuries by 40%. How do you think the robots work? Next time you are walking around Seaham, try to look out for an Amazon van, and what is that in the sky. It might be a delivery drone.
Do you like exploring the outdoors with some of the latest technology? A Surveyor is someone who uses data to determine precise boundaries and locations of property. Surveying has existed for thousands of years, and has been used throughout history to build everything from pyramids to cathedrals. Today’s surveyors use special equipment that finds where a building, bridge, or road should be built. The same GPS that helps you follow a map in a car is also used to map points by surveyors. Many even use drones to explore and map land from above, especially in areas that are not easy to get to. While many surveyors work outside, some provide information to businesses for planning new building projects or to courts to help settle disputes. To become a surveyor you’ll need to study maths, science, geography, and technology. Most also get a college degree. There are many job openings for surveyors! This was also a job opportunity available to view during our Careers Evening on the 20th of November, so you might already be familiar with this.

It feels like the conflict in Ukraine is some distant nightmare from a fever dream. However, this war torn brutal reality is still very much happening just a short flight away.
The most recent development in this terrible conflict is that the USA could be stopping aid to Ukraine amidst its almost forgotten conflict. You may ask what this would mean for Ukraine, it means that thousands of previously well armed and well fed professionals will be missing out on vital resources that contribute to turning the tide of the war. However not only will soldiers go hungry but so will millions of Ukrainian families still trying to escape the conflict in between the two sides. This is a very worrying matter still in development , due to this there is very limited information to why the USA has thought about stopping aid but we will try to keep the general audience as updated as possible.
The governments of the world have agreed on a declaration at the Cop28 climate summit that has been both hailed as historic and dismissed as weak. Here are the big takeaways from today. Countries agreed on a text that encourages countries to move away from fossil fuels and quickly ramp up renewable energy. Island states whose homes are being washed away by rising sea levels said the text was an improvement but contains a “litany of loopholes”. Scientists said the document did not go far enough for world leaders to honour the promise they made to keep the planet from heating 1.5C above pre-industrial temperatures by the end of the century. Poorer countries said they were frustrated by the lack of a concrete plan to adapt to climate change and money to do so. In our school, we have even started a small garden project that has been funded by governors in the local area. This garden is just outside the West wing near the bike racks. This garden aims to produce a healthy amount of produce that can be used to reduce our carbon footprint and take steps to improve our environment.
