Enlivening Spaces
Enlivening Spaces
The site is located in chikoowadi , borivali west which is in the northern part of mumbai.
The pandemic has brought a lot of changes in our lives especially the ones of kids and children going from a really active life to a sedentary lifestyle. To provide a solution for this I observed that a society converted their unused seating space to a turf.
The turf is used for various activities like sports, birthday celebration, social gatherings, birthday celebrations, dance rehearsals, exercising etc.
To use this concept in a new space I found a similar unused space in my society that I chose to reimagine keeping the current pandemic in mind as well.
Programmes:
1. Isolation center for covid patients of the society as there are only 1bhk and 2bhk in my society so for people find difficulties to quarantine themselves
2.seating space
3.indoor games facilities
4.space for sports activities
5.walking track
In my observed site, below the turf there was a way going down towards the basement parking so what I found interesting was how two different layers could facilitate opposite programs simultaneously and also how a change in materiality can activate the space.
Even in the site of intervention the space is a void space between two really dense residential zones.
In my design I have worked through the idea of layers and how different programs are performed simultaneously. The 1 layer has a covid isolation room , indoor games space, and a garden with seating space. Also the boundary of the 1 layer creates a walking track. The 2 layer which is supported by 4 beams has a space for sports activities, skating ground and seating space.
For the support I added 4 beams across the two buildings. By using different programmes and change in material was an effective way of establishing these programs.
I expect after the pandemic this place will be converted to a society office as the existing office is really small. They could have their meeting without any space hindrance.
