Due to the pandemic there are many immediate changes in everyday practices in our neighborhood. There was a shift in way of life to adapt to these new pandemic conditions. For the studio some of these altered practices were observed and recorded to come to a design conclusion. The title of my project is 'A shared Setup' and it is located in Grant road, Mumbai. The altered practice I observed was that of sharing practices. The shopkeepers could not afford rent so in the place of 2 shops there were 3 shops operating. Also trains were not functioning so they could not go back home hence they started living there and shared not only workspace but food and sleeping space. There was a collapse of the domestic sphere into their workspace and the sharing practices became the operative to facilitate the work-live condition. The site of intervention was located near Grant road station. Conceptually the site should be a location where multiple programs were working closely with one another and there would be a possibility of share or multiple programs were brought together by by a share.

The identified syntax was due to the space constraint which brought the shared living conditions into action. There was a transformation in nature of space and there was an overlap between domestic life and work but there was no infrastructure for the same. The programs I decided to provide for were a shared base for sleeping, working, eating, and leisure. The design consisted of units which were made to consist a work table to be used for selling and eating activities, storage shelves and beds which were to be used seating. The elements were reconfigured in a manner to obey the syntax of the overlap of activities. Each unit provided an infrastructure to satisfy working and living needs which created a shared environment for the people. The corona situation has limited movement for people from work to home. Mumbai is a hotspot for shared spaces and activities and hence the design would be of practical use even after the covid situation as food stalls or help desks on the station.
