What is a museum ?

Design Question

Where does the museum end and the outside world begin ? What are the museum’s relations to communities and society? How can communities be engaged in collaborative and performative processes of co-curating and museum-making? How will a multisensory museum be ? What will be the role of a museum as both incubators and transmitter of knowledge? Can a museum be a psycho spatial experience?

Design Intention

The museum locates the history of migrants situated in the city of Jalgaon with the help of personal narratives and psycho spatial experiences.

Site Analysis

Museum of ?

A museum of personal narratives of the individuals who migrated and were affected by the partition and tracing their journeys and talking about their stories.

Visual storytelling to occur in the form of architecture by trying to develop a multilayered language. A spatial language to tell a story of the place. To tell stories of the people who inhabit or have inhabited the place, trying to narrate the cultural history.

The strategy was to make a museum as a ghost house which will be a part of the dense fabric where these Immigrants started settling up when they moved here. The museum will be a part of the dense fabric and submerge in the same, but remain a strange memory. The building as space evokes the idea of the intimacy of home and narratives of its loss. turning the experience of belonging to different homelands into something other than to territorial ownership, a claiming and belonging without possession.
