Pranav Kadambi - A20 and Vidhi Shah - A21
Our site area - the ongoing proposed coastal road made us question upon the proposed landscaping done by the BMC and how would it be useful to the people in the future. The coastal road project starts from the Priyadarshini park and ends at the Worli sea face. Our site area was Haji Ali bay which is a human-centric area and it focuses mainly on the people visiting and worshiping the Haji Ali dargah. Connecting the fisherman's wharf at the Haji Ali bay, we observed the strengths and weaknesses of that surrounding.
providing a space for the people who can enjoy the existing market as well as the proposed market and the cultural space was our main motive. The dargah during the festivals like Ramzan and Eid congregates a huge number of people. Our site starts from the Mahalakshmi temple to the Haji Ali bay.
We proposed a play area for the children and their families on the left of the tunnel, a market space that merges with the cultural space (qawwali space) on the right of the tunnel provided to reach the causeway, few sitting spaces which would also merge with the sitting spaces of the extended juice center and then connecting with the bus stop providing a better public transport facility.

Rehabilitation of Marketspace, and selling of other religious and cultural items.
Potential areas could be the open spaces before the beginning of the tunnel, large multipurpose spaces can be provided for shops to be set up and brought down depending on time of day, and day of the week.
Areas for pop-up stalls, as well as designated spaces for selling of items- vendors can keep rotating in an auction based system.
Beyond just a space to sell goods, it can be a display of culture as well.
Space for loiter and conversations, a space to linger for those lingering around after visiting the Dargah.
Many visitors, and pilgrims generally stay around the area for 30-45 minutes after visiting the Dargah, generally with family.
Gazebos, Art installations are possible programmes to allow loitering, conversations
A space of play as many of those visiting the dargah are families with children.
Many children were seen enjoying the splashing of water on the causeway, and sliding down the subway’s slopes.
Children’s parks, kids art walls are potential programs to introduce to the area
A convenient, and more open space for easy movement around transit spaces, such as subways and the bus stops- how can the space of waiting be enhanced?
The spaces around the bus stops are very cramped, and causes the crowds to spill out onto the street
Revitalizing the fisherman’s wharf, as it is the only space in the bay which has not been claimed by the coastal road project.
Many of the fishermen gather during the evenings, after putting their boats dry, many of them oppose the coastal road due to the adverse effects on their livelihood.
An area where cultural events can spill out beyond the Dargah, to host events during festivals. Spaces for stalls to pop up, a music events area.
Music is played by many music groups who move between various dargahs and mosques.
An event space can be integrated within the market space, along with a space following the type of an Amphitheatre.
Toilets as there is a large footfall daily, with large crowds during Jumma and weekends
What makes a Dargah a Dargah? What makes a temple a temple? Is it the experience of the space, or the worship of the idol?
