House as a Nukkad :
The idea was to design a house as a nukkad where people can gather and socialize and spend light hearted time, chatting, reading newspapers, etc. The house consists of a long hall with plinth modulations marking each different space. The plinth modulation makes it possible to inhabit the house in different ways such as an informal gathering space, play area for kids, a reading corner, etc. The living room works with a dense set of plinths which act as platforms, seats, sofas, ledges which connect the inside to the outside. The space before the kitchen opens up to the pond outside. This space as well as the plinth that it extends to, allows one to spend time around the pond. Winds blow over the pond of the west and carry humid air inside the house, thus creating a moist and cooler feel. The jalis on the north facade maximizes daylight and enhances ventilation. Terrace garden, a space to pause and relax, a space to laze around on the top adds another layer of cooling as it cuts the harsh direct rays of sun. The ramps allow each and every individual of the house, be it a toddler or an elderly person, to access all parts of the house with ease. As one meanders through the ground floor connecting with the outside at different instances, one reaches the first floor which houses the private spaces such as bedrooms.Â
