Site Analysis
Chickhlipada, a small community village in Dahisar T manor having a total of 17 houses. There are 5 padas in the village Chikhlipada, Naptipada, Deurpada, Oplipada and Dengipada.
So this is the scheme we I was studying comes under Gharkul scheme built 16 years ago, earlier it was a small jhopdi there which was later built by brick walls as load bearing structural members. Th house was partially made up of bricks and partially by kaarvi, a local material for window which they get from near side forest. The house having comprises of 3 people and 3 people in the opposite house but are of same family. The side structure was completly built by kaarvi which was used for their storage purpose like grains, drums, construction materials, etc. As the family members were construction labourers. The main occupation of village people is farming and are labourers(govandi).

The detailed site plan - Main house, opposite extended house of the same family and the store room
Observation- Main house was the primary space for the family members.
Store room was not used properly, a lot of space is empty.
Verandah and the living space in the main house are their active spaces
No light and Ventilation as North and North-East facadees completly closed by the brick walls, the only source of light which they get was the space between the GI sheets which was only for some parts of the day.
Kitchen faces a problem of water leakage at monsoon times.
No washroom facility, they go in open and just a mori for bathing.
Towards the design process-
The intent was to reimagining this house, my primary objective was to elevate its livability and strengthen its connectivity with the surrounding environment. One key aspect of the redesign was the incorporation of various verandas and courtyards of differing scales. These spaces were carefully crafted to accommodate a range of activities and needs, thereby fostering inter activities and connectivities among inhabitants while promoting adaptability to different lifestyles and situations.
The other aspect of redesigning is to ensure a systematic arrangement of space comprising courtyards in place and having other commodities around it. Courtyard will provide them the sense of open and closed spaces i.e. a multiple courtyards which becomes a public as well as a playful space. Courtyard will be used accordingly in any season, in summers it will give them the light cold breeze at night, at monsson it will provide them the facilty to wash their equipments in courtyards itself, these can provide them the diffused light inside their space at every period of time in a day.
Again, the space also will be focussed towards courtyards itself from any point where its living room, kitchen or from bedroom. One main intention was to give them the sense of playfulness from one space to any other space in the house.
started off with the idea of courtyard at back with a passage around it but some trees are enterring into the passage.
started taking this courtyard space inside and other spaces around it, which will not damage the trees enterring inside.
The opposite house also, I started converting it in the sense of openness and courtyard, with introducing a community space in front which will be a play of level of plinths.
opened up every facades of every units by creating vantages facing courtyards along with the creation of levels in each space. Also introducing sitting spaces across courtyards.
increased the spaces towards back side and trying to get the trees inside both bedroom spaces by which I tilted the other bedroom in order to place it likely inspite of breaking the language.
Due to tilting of bedroom space I also get the boundary walls in the same angle.
getting the trees inside bedrrom will be quite challenging as it will start seepage of water in rainy days, it will increase insects as well. So inspite of breaking the unit I itself increased it in a form of viewing decks which will be completely open with large openings and doors towards it results in the change of experience of the space.
Instead of making a boundary wall, I started creating the sitting spaces across it from both ends at different levels following towards verandah.
Verandah will also follows the same language of sitting spaces with a play of levels.
The roofing will be open above the courtyards and series of cut outs over verandah spaces.

So the main objective of the Module was to learn and understand the typology of the house and how can we change its type which can creates a different experience of a space by maintaining the requirements and availabilities of the community.
