What is FAFSA and why is it important?
The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is a free form students fill out to apply for financial aid from the federal government, states, and colleges. It determines eligibility for grants, scholarships, work-study jobs and student loans.
For more informational videos about different aspects of the FAFSA, check out their youtube channel.

California Financial Aid Programs
The California College Promise Grant (CCPG), formerly Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOGW), is a state-sponsored program that waives tuition for qualifying students for up to 2 years, if they are enrolled full time and are first time college students. College students must complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or California Dream Act Application (CADAA), IN ADDITION to other steps required by each community college.
CalGrant is free money from the state of California to help eligible students pay for college. No repayment is required.
SDVS submits all senior Cal Grant GPAs for consideration for Cal Grant in October. Once students complete their FAFSA or CADAA applications, they will be notified via email (from the California Student Aid Commission ~ CSAC) if they were eligible for Cal Grant. Be sure to check your email!
How do I accept my Cal Grant Award?
The California Kids Investment and Development Savings Program (CalKIDS) is program that provides eligible children with a savings account program. The account comes with a starter deposit and other possible bonuses to help cover future college costs.
Find out if you're eligible here. Ask Mrs. Powell for your SSID if you don't know what that is.
