TO MAKE THE TPHS VARSITY GIRLS GOLF TEAM YOU SHOULD:

-Be an experienced golfer.  

-Have a working knowledge of the Rules of Golf. 

-Be confident hitting a variety of shots with a variety of clubs.

-Have an average score of under 50 for 9-holes on a regulation golf course.

Tryout Procedures:

Range Tryout: All student-athletes who were not part of the team last year are required to participate in the driving range tryout.  Golfers will be evaluated on over-all swing, consistency, accuracy with a variety of clubs and distances, chipping, and putting.  Cuts will be made following the range tryout.

On-Course Tryout: Up to 16 total golfers will be invited to play in an on course tryout. This tryout will take place at courses that will be announced . Golfers do NOT get to choose their try out dates, times or groups, and failure to show up for your assigned tee time will result in an automatic cut from the program.  Cuts will be made after the range tryout and following on-course tryouts.

Galleries are NOT permitted at the on-course tryouts. Parents, guardians, siblings are not to go be on the grounds of the Clubs where the tryouts are taking place other than to drop off or pick up their golfer.

Range Tryout: All student-athletes who were not part of the team last year are required to participate in the driving range tryout.  Golfers will be evaluated on over-all swing, consistency, accuracy with a variety of clubs and distances, chipping, and putting.  Cuts will be made following the range tryout.

On-Course Tryout: Up to 16 total golfers will be invited to play in an on course tryout. This tryout will take place at courses that will be announced . Golfers do NOT get to choose their try out dates, times or groups, and failure to show up for your assigned tee time will result in an automatic cut from the program.  Cuts will be made after the range tryout and following on-course tryouts.

Galleries are NOT permitted at the on-course tryouts. Parents, guardians, siblings are not to go be on the grounds of the Clubs where the tryouts are taking place other than to drop off or pick up their golfer.

Due to the incredibly talent group of golfers at the range today the On Course Try-out on Monday August 12 will be limited to the following new golfers. All 2023 JV and Gold team members will tryout on Thursday,  August 15. More information will follow regarding Thursday's tryout.

2023 Range Tryout Times and Information (UPDATED 8/8)

What: The range tryout if only for new potential players to the TPHS Golf Program.  During the tryout golfers will be asked to hit a variety of shots with nearly every club in their bag.  Golfers will be evaluated on accuracy, distance, and consistency during this tryout. Cuts will be made following the range tryout.  

When: Thursday, August 10  3:00-5:00 

Where: Del Mar Golf Center (15555 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar, CA 92014)

Please Complete the Pre-Tryout Information Form Prior to Tryouts. 

For all Tryouts:

-Please be respectful of our courses.

-DO Drive slowly and safely on and near club grounds.

-DO NOT go into the Clubhouse or Pro Shop (During On-Course Tryout)

-Come dressed appropriately in appropriate golf attire.

-Shirts tucked in

-Hats facing forward

-No cargo shorts or jeans (of any color)

-Skirts/Shorts should be no more than 6 inches above the knee

-No Yoga Pants 

-DO NOT get dressed in the parking lot of our courses

-DO Come warmed up and ready to tee off. We do NOT have access to the range at most of our courses.

-Parents/Galleries ARE NOT PERMITTED on the course or Club grounds during on course tryouts. Parents please wait in their cars in the parking lots. We'd also ask parents who are members of our courses to follow these same rules.

– Rangefinders and pull/push carts ARE permitted (Non-GPS ONLY)

-Do NOT arrive more than 30 minutes before our scheduled tee time, unless otherwise noted. DO wait in the parking lot for either Coach Drake or Coach Joe to arrive. For ON COURSE TRYOUT- IF YOU ARE ON THE COURSE, CLUB GROUNDS, OR PUTTING GREEN BEFORE A COACH ARRIVES YOU WILL BE CUT FROM THE TEAM ON THE SPOT.

-SDUHSD policy states that students may only be driven by themselves or their parents. Students may NOT drive other students to or from matches or practice.

Tryout Procedures:

Range Tryout: All student-athletes who were not part of the team last year are required to participate in the driving range tryout.  Golfers will be evaluated on over-all swing, consistency, accuracy with a variety of clubs and distances, chipping, and putting.  Cuts will be made following the range tryout.

On-Course Tryout: Up to 16 total golfers will be invited to play in an on course tryout. This tryout will take place at courses that will be announced . Golfers do NOT get to choose their try out dates, times or groups, and failure to show up for your assigned tee time will result in an automatic cut from the program.  Cuts will be made after the range tryout and following on-course tryouts.

Galleries are NOT permitted at the on-course tryouts. Parents, guardians, siblings are not to go be on the grounds of the Clubs where the tryouts are taking place other than to drop off or pick up their golfer.
