In the PALs program, we have 5 committees dedicated to various aspects of our organization, each working to ensure that our program remains successful. These committees are run by one member from our leadership team that works alongside 4-6 other PALs to create the most productive and effective team as possible.
In the Outreach Committee, we are in charge of reaching out to middle schools for annual mental health presentations, philanthropy initiatives, suicide prevention, national eating disorder walks, and any other initiatives to get our missions and messages out to the community. With our organizational skills, we help the PALs program run smoothly and ensure people engage with our projects! More information on events and philanthropy can be found in the dropdown menu below!
Walks For A Cause: In September and February, the Outreach Committee spearheads the Suicide Prevention and National Eating Disorder Awareness (NEDA) Walks. These walks serve to provide resources, education, and decrease stigma around certain topics for the general community. These walks include student and professional speakers, information tables from UCSD Nutrition Counseling and AIM, food donated by local businesses, and a walk around the perimeter of the Torrey Pines campus.
Dates for the 2025-2026 School Year Walks Below.
Suicide Prevention Walk: September 6th, 2025 at 11 AM
NEDA Walk: March 1, 2025 at 11 AM
Philanthropy Branch: The Outreach Committee has recently established a philanthropy branch dedicated to bimonthly events for both PALs and the community to get involved in. In the 2024-2025 school year, PALs connected with the USC Street Medicine Initiative to provide 104 water bottles, 94 packs of ramen, 41 cans of food, and 4 packs of utensils to the Southern California homeless communities. During the holiday season, PALs volunteered at Laughing Pony Rescue, a local ranch for neglected farm animals, and held two events for writing Words of Encouragement cards to the local Scripps Hospital psychiatric departments.
Middle School Presentations: Annually, PALs visits with Carmel Valley Middle School (CVMS), Earl Warren Middle School (EWMS), Pacific Trails Middle School, (PTMS) and R. Roger Rowe Middle School. To educate students about managing stress, how to adjust to high school, and answer any questions students may have about the program and Torrey Pines as a whole.
New Student Committee strives to provide information and mental health resources, create a welcoming and inclusive environment, and establish ourselves as a support system for all freshman and transfer students at Torrey Pines. New Student Committee understands the importance of having a friendly face on campus, and through our Welcome Wednesdays and New Student Tours, we work to create connections and long-lasting friendships with new students. Take a look at more information regarding our activities with the dropdown menu below!
Welcome Wednesdays: Every 1-3-5-7 Wednesday during lunch, the New Student Committee hosts Welcome Wednesdays in the PALs room (Room 9 in the Learning Commons). It’s a time for new students to make friends and connect with other students on campus. Each week involves a different activity and theme, as well as fun snacks for all students that join us! Some of our favorite activities this year so far have been Cookie Decorating, Board & Trivia Games, "Name That Song", Bracelet Making, and Mario Kart Tournaments!
Dates for 2025-2026 Welcome Wednesdays Below.
Semester 1: August 20th, September 3rd, September 10th, October 8th, October 15th, October 29th, November 19th, December 10th, and December 17th.
Semester 2: TBD
New Student Tours:
8th Grade Campus Tours: A tour given by current TPHS students (both from PALs and ASB) for 8th graders considering coming to Torrey Pines. In these tours, students get to walk the school campus, learn about all sorts of classes, and get a better understanding of what it means to be a Torrey Pines Falcon! While the students tour, parents meet with our Principal Rob Coppo for an informational session on TPHS and to get any questions answered about high school.
The Digital Messaging Committee works to effectively run both the PALs social media presence and the website. Through the creation of digital flyers, calendars, and announcements, we strategically promote our events and activities school-wide. By helping out all of the committees with advertising, we ensure school engagement and connection to the PALs program. Access our Instagram via the gray icon button! @torreypinespals
The Physical Messaging Committee ensures that information and mental health resources are all around school, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment at Torrey Pines. The Physical Messaging committee is responsible for advertising PALs events by making posters. We also decorate and update our bulletin board in the B-Building (Learning Commons) to keep students up to date about our program.
The Wellness committee specializes in creating fun and engaging events that all students can participate in. These events spread awareness to a variety of mental health topics to foster a healthy environment for student interaction and education.
Some of our events throughout the year include:
Yellow Ribbon Week (September)
Red Ribbon Week (November)
SC Activities (Wednesdays during Student Connection Time)
Kindness Week (March)
Spread the Love Week (February)
