What should I do if I miss a day of class due to an excused absence?

If you miss a day of class you should first make an effort to check on Google Classroom for the information. If you do not find the information there, try texting/calling a friend in class. If you cannot get the information please see me before class, after class or send me an email. Remember you are responsible for getting the information from someone.

When can I make up a laboratory if I missed a day of class due to an excused absence?

You will need to request and appointment using the Make-Up Assignment Form. I will send you an email to confirm you can make up the lab on the requested day or give you an alternate day. Some labs will not be made up or you may be asked to perform a different lab than the one performed in class.

What can I do to make up a quiz I missed when I was absent?

Since quizzes do not count toward your final grade you will not make up any missed quizzes.

I was absent for an exam, when will I have the opportunity to take the exam?

You will make up the exam after school or during class time based upon the timing and when you feel ready to take the exam.

Is there any opportunity for extra credit in this class?

There is no opportunity for extra credit in this class. The idea is to learn the content of the course and you will have multiple opportunities to demonstrate your learning.

Can I turn in work that is late?

Yes you may turn in work late! There is no penalty for turning in assignments late. I want you to do well on your work so rather than rush your work, make sure to take time to understand. Ask questions if you do not understand but don't copy a classmates work...it will only hurt your learning.

How can I raise my grade in class if I am not performing well?

If you are struggling with the class come in for help! Often times it only takes about 20 minutes for me to discuss the concept to see what you are not understanding. Then I can help you with other examples or more practice. It will be in your best interest to take some more time at home to understand the concepts discussed in class. In my 24 years of teaching most students struggle because they are not committing the time necessary to be successful.

Do you offer tutoring or have any tutoring services you recommend?

Tutoring is offered after school on Tuesday and Thursday. I am also available before school on Wednesday. There are no tutoring services that I recommend because my tutoring is free!

How soon should I expect a response through e-mail or telephone from Mr. Smith?

Please allow me 24 to 48 hours to respond to an e-mail. If I do not get back to you within the time frame please feel free to e-mail me again. As for the phone messages, please allow me 48 to 72 hours for a phone response.

What is my grade in Mr. Smith's class?

I do not handout progress reports or post grades in class. In order to view your grade you must have an Aeries account through the SDUHSD school district. The purpose of this system is to allow you to see grades in real time as they are recorded in the grade book.
