Digital Design Basics

Perspective, Illustrated

Using original photographs, students will capture and illustrate various forms of perspective and composition.

Pixel Value and Resolution

Students will learn about the building blocks of digital imaging.

Adobe Photoshop Projects

Photoshop Portrait

Students will digitally "trace" a portrait using the pen tool to create lines and shapes.

Photoshop Silhouettes

Students will create a silhouette from an image, desaturate the image, then fill the darker areas with descriptive text.

Alliterative Photoshop Portrait

In this intro to Photoshop project, students will take a self-portrait in front of the green screen, then come up with a descriptive alliterative nickname for themselves. Next, they will manipulate the image in Photoshop, using adjustment layers and filters, and replace the green BG (background) to create an image in the style of the alliterative name. Lastly, add a text layer of your alliterative name to the image.

Inverted Color Optical Illusion

To the right is an illusion made using a negative afterimage. This visual trick tricks the photoreceptors, primarily the cone cells, in your eyes to see color where there is none.

Logo Design

Use vector shapes in Adobe Illustrator CC to create a logo that looks good onscreen and in print. The best part about vector art is that it scales to any size — from business cards to billboards — without losing quality.
