About Me

My career in technology education began at San Francisco State University, where I graduated with a B.A. in Broadcast and Electronic Media in 1999. Upon graduating, I worked in Los Angeles for a couple of years, first as a freelance tv/film production assistant, then settling in as a segment producer for Surf Channel, an ill-fated action sports network start-up. After a year of editing video footage of other people enjoying exotic places and the life of adventure, I decided it was my turn. At the demise of Surf Channel, I took off for six months and sailed aboard Condesa, a 39-foot ketch from the Kingdom of Tonga, to Australia, by way of the Fijian Islands and New Caledonia.

Happy to be on dry land again, I set my sights on San Diego, my home of many years. I worked as a freelance video producer and editor before landing a staff position as an Associate Producer/Editor at Imageworks. I enjoyed three years at Imageworks working with great clients such as: Coca-Cola, KPBS, SDSU, UCSD, Dimension One Spas, The Department of Justice and The CA Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (yes, cop training videos.)

I made the career change to educator when I became one of the charter faculty members of High Tech High Media Arts in Point Loma. I enjoyed a long career at HTHMA where I prided myself on guiding students in using various technological applications to express theirselves artistically, and bridging the technology gap that exists among high school students in San Diego.

Currently, I’m teaching Digital Video Production and Digital Art in the San Dieguito School District. When I’m not working, I enjoy doing anything in, on or around the ocean, reading, and spending time with my wife, Amy, and our daughters, Sage & Kristen.
