My vision of education is that I influence perceptions about science based on the content I teach and the way I present it. My aim is to also learn from the students I teach - it is through this give and take that I derive the greatest satisfaction in calling myself an educator. I strive to build personal relationships with my students and encourage them to trust and learn from one another - this fuels me with energy to come back, excited to teach each day.
I started my teaching career in 1996 in San Diego at the same middle school I attended, teaching with my father! Shortly after he retired, I moved to Oceanside and joined Earl Warren Middle School in 2000. I moved to Carmel Valley Middle School in 2008 to be part-time and home with my two sons when they were little. Now that they're all grown up, I'm back to full time and especially excited to be at a smaller school that's closer to home. This will be my eighth year at Oak Crest and my 30th year of teaching.
I was born and raised in San Diego and have lived here for most of my life. Outside of teaching I love the beach, listening to live music at concerts, reading for pleasure, and meeting up with my sister on the weekends for long walks at the beach or a hike. My family, which includes my husband, two sons, and two dogs, lives in Oceanside.
