Dear Seniors and Internship enthusiasts,
Dear Students,
If you are interested in having me write a letter of recommendation for college, summer programs, scholarships, etc. Please make sure you meet with me first before filling out this form. Usually an email asking to meet after school is the best time. I am happy to help you out, but please be respectful of this process. I know this may be the first time asking for a recommendation. It takes time for the writer to complete forms and letters. It is a stressful part of a teacher's duties but I am here to help. So here are some guidelines.
1) Please allow at least two weeks for me to complete a letter. I plan out my weeks ahead of time and have other priorities lined up. I usually can not help in these situations. If I already have a letter written for you from another program I might be able to fit you in.
2) Can I write you a good letter? Were you a good student in my class? That does not refer to grades......Were you respectful? An active participant? Hard worker? Work well with classmates? Most forms ask me to compare students to other students I have taught. I answer with complete honesty,
3) Make a resume and cover letter. A simple resume is easy to put together, a basic google search will present plenty of resources and examples. List some of activities (clubs, extra circulars, classes, volunteers work, part-time work, etc.) both in and out of school and give a brief description of your duties/accomplishments. This should only be one page in length. A cover letter is a 2-3 paragraph statement that expresses your goals and interests for applying to a program or job.
4) Please know the teacher requirements and deadlines for your program. Many programs have online forms, some still require hard copies. Make sure know the method of delivery. If you need hard copies sent, please bring me an addressed and stamped envelope. Double check the spelling of my email address. That is the number one reason things get messed up. kaveh.shakeri@sduhsd.net
5) Once you have completed this form please stop by my room (no appointment needed) to make sure I got the information. As the deadlines approach, feel free to also check in with me to see if I got everything done. I do have a "to do list" but sometimes people slip through the cracks. I know you have a lot to stress about so do not worry about bothering me.
6) Bring me a signed FERPA form.
Good luck with your applications! Please fill out the appropriate form below.
