This course is a college-preparatory course for 9th graders who enjoy the language arts and the demands of a rigorous course. The course is designed to introduce students to the major modes of writing: narration, description, exposition, and persuasion. Students will also study the major literary genres: short story, poem and novel. Students will improve on their understanding and use of the conventions of standard English as well as their vocabulary, reading comprehension, and research and study skills. The primary goal of this course is to improve student learning, communication, and critical thinking skills that will help them navigate through life.
