General Information and Highlights:
IM1H and IM2H Double Block Math Class: For advanced students coming from Math B Honors that are interested in taking two math classes in one year. This allows students to double up similarly to the academies.
IM3H to Calculus BC: Unique only to LCC, students are able to jump right from the completion of IM3H to AP Calculus BC. Students who take the AP test will receive a score for both AB and BC Calculus.
Support Classes: We will offer Math 1 Support, Math 2 Support and Math 3 Support classes next year as well as the general Academic Survival courses. These classes are taken at the same time as their respective math courses and are taught by a math teacher so students get extra help if they are struggling through math. Recommended for students with a low B or C in their current math class. These courses count as math elective credits.
IB Math Classes: We currently offer two levels of IB Math courses. IB Standard level (SL) Year 2 follows Math 3 CP and IB Higher Level (HL) Year 2 follows Math 3 Honors. Both courses are weighted and contain both a test and an Internal Assessment which includes a self-interest math research project which contributes to the IB score.
Dual Enrollment at Mira Costa: We currently have 3 courses that students can earn direct college credit with Mira Costa Community College.
Calculus D and Linear Algebra is taken after Calculus BC and is an option for students who initially took the Double Block IM1H and IM2H course their freshman year.
Applied Pre-Calculus and Business Calculus is an option after IM3 CP for students who want to begin exploration with calculus in high school. This is great for students interested in majoring in business-related topics.
Business Math is taken senior year and for students who are interested in the basics of how a business is run.
American Mathematics Competition (AMC) is a mathematics competition offered every February to any students interested in a challenge. The school covers the cost of each test for any students interested. For more information, visit https://www.maa.org/math-competitions
Pi Chella each year, we celebrate the most fun number on March 14th (3.14). We celebrate with various activities like digit recitals, games and of course by eating pie!
Calculus/IB Camp: around the end of May, each year the AP Calculus and IB Math courses gather in the woods for some intense studying and fresh air to prepare for the AP or IB test.
