Asking for Letters of Recommendation (READ FIRST)
When asking for a letter of recommendation, pick a teacher who knows you. Having a good grade is not enough...it is much easier (and meaningful) for me to write a letter recommendation for a student who asks questions, comes to office hours, tells me about their interest, sports, clubs, activities outside of school, etc. compared to a student who scores wells, but has barely spoken to me all term.
If you think I am a good person to ask, then ask IN PERSON! Do not list me as a reference UNLESS you have already spoken to me beforehand.
Ask AT LEAST 2 WEEK BEFORE the due date.
When you come to ask for a letter of recommendation, come prepared. Print out and sign FERPA form and be able to tell me about the program you applying to. **If the school/program you are applying to requires a hard copy, please bring a pre-addressed envelope.
If I agree to write a letter of recommendation, complete the student information form below. Providing more thoughtful answers will give me more to talk about.
Follow up...politely remind me as the due date approaches. I will confirm once I have completed/submitted your letter of recommendation.
I reserve the right to say NO if you do not follow these steps.
