Program Description:
The San Dieguito Union High School District Induction Program is a CTC-approved Induction Program that provides a two year, individualized, job-embedded system of mentoring, support and professional learning that begins in the candidate's first year of teaching and continues through the completion of their second year. The program is based on the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs).
The SDUHSD Induction Program is a two-year program for new teachers who hold a Preliminary Teaching Credential. Candidates are matched with a mentor according to their teaching site, credential(s) held, grade level, and/or subject area within the first 30 days of enrollment, as appropriate to the participant's employment.
Participation and completion leads to a Professional Clear credential. Participants in the first year of teaching and have a trained Mentor, complete cycles of Inquiry and attend professional-development seminars based on the CSTPs (California Standards for the Teaching Profession). The program is job-embedded with a focus on mentoring and support of new teachers. Each candidate receives an average of not less than one hour per week of individualized support/mentoring coordinated and/or provided by the mentor.
Program Components:
New Teacher/Counselor Orientation
The SDUHSD New Teacher/Counselor Orientation is an opportunity to welcome new employees, to provide them with vital information specific to our district, and create an informal Professional Learning Community. The goal is to connect with new employees and to support them as they transition into our district and their site. The orientation includes training in a variety of areas such as HR, Student Information systems, SPED and ELD support, as well as technology support. It also includes a site tour and access to classrooms and technology tools to assist teachers in their transition to the new school year.
Induction Program
The SDUHSD Induction program is a two-year program that fulfills the state requirements for preliminary credentialed teachers in clearing their California credentials. This program is rooted in Mentoring and Standards Based Support and Reflection. It includes several inquiries and opportunities to explore best practices through the understanding of context and participation in co-observation, and teacher reflection with a focus on continued growth. Our program includes professional growth seminars and emphasizes individual site support with a low mentor to mentee ratio.
New Teacher Check-In and Observation Support
The New Teacher Check-In and Observation Support is a program aimed at continuing to support new teachers throughout the school year. It will include voluntary support for all new (non-induction) teachers to determine how we can best support all new employees throughout the district. It will also include the extension of opportunities to observe and engage in reflection for new teachers that utilize support providers as a resource.
Support for Administrative Guided Improvement
The Administrative Guided Improvement is a continued program to support administration through communication with and utilization of our program and how we can best support all teachers. This component allows administration to provide an additional layer of support for teachers voluntarily and may include observation, co-observation, and reflection.
