San Sebastián, Spain
Estimados padres,
Dear parents,
This year, your child will begin their journey on the path to being bilingual (or trilingual for some)! While taking Spanish 1, students will learn about a variety of subjects within the Spanish speaking world such as: Spanish art, Mayan languages and architecture, cultural dances, music, fashion, and, of course, food.
I teach Spanish because I want students to embrace the opportunity they have living in a Spanish-speaking community. I came to love Spanish throughout my childhood experiences living in San Diego and traveling abroad. Growing up, I embraced the opportunity to hear Spanish wherever I went and read Spanish on every sign, trying to understand each word. Being a native speaker of French, I could relate to much of what I saw and heard around me and it has always been a passion of mine to make connections between these two Romance languages. My family and I often traveled to Mexico to scuba dive, where I delighted in speaking to the locals in Spanish.
As for my educational background, I have a B.A. Degree from U.C.S.D. in International studies-Linguistics and and a Masters in Teaching from U.C. Irvine. Beyond high school I took university courses in Spanish Literature. For my Undergraduate studies at U.C.S.D., I chose a secondary track of Latin American Studies.
I am looking forward to a wonderful school year with your child. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Sinceramente,
Sincerely,
Melanie Emr (melanie.emr@sduhsd.net)
