A long snappers main job is to quickly and accurate snap the ball to either the punter or place holder during punts, field goals, or point after attempts. The long snapper position is often very overlooked in the grand scheme of football, but they are very integral to the success of one's team overall.
For this analysis we looked into judging long snappers based on three total categories. Out of the total number of snaps before a punt, how many were deemed a good snap, how many were deemed a bad snap, and what was each individual punters average snap speed? Below is a scatter plot that describes the amount of good snaps a player has, versus how many snaps he has in total.
While judging how good a snappers accuracy is, we also have to account for the average speed at which the ball travels from the snapper, to the punter. Creating a combined metric based on speed and accuracy is the pinnacle of rating a long snapper.
