Our project delved into the multifaceted factors influencing obesity across the United States. We explore how varying exercise patterns and dietary habits across states contribute to obesity rates. Additionally, we considered the impact of race and ethnicity, and how differences in urban and rural lifestyles affecting obesity. A key part of our study also included analyzing the role of socioeconomic status, particularly amount of access to healthcare and fast food restaurants influencing obesity. This comprehensive approach allowed us to understand the complex nature of obesity in America.
We analyzed obesity data of the U.S. of multiple years. Our results show that obesity is not distributed evenly between the states and counties. Hence, we looked at correlations and other statistics to provide more insights about obesity and correlating variables. Our results show that obesity is correlated with many other health factors. This is a strong argument to search for approaches to address the increasing obesity rates. With our predictive models we tried to find factors influencing the obesity rates. As expected, exercising decreased obesity. Also not surprising was the relevance of high smoking increasing the obesity rates. However, we did not anticipate the strength of smoking. This might be a factor that could be addressed in future policies targeting to lower obesity rates and improving the general health.
