San Diego State University has a drag community like no other. Whether that be in part due to the number of different drag events that we have on campus or the many opportunities and representations of drag that we have we have definitely created a palpable drag culture and community here on campus. We kid that we have a drag academy on campus. However it is quite true, because we have a number of different kinds of drag events for folxs that want to get involved with drag at whatever stages and levels they may be at.

Big Queer BBQ
This is a variety show style event put on by the Queer Student Union that a lot of first time drag performers sign up for to get their feet wet. You can sign up to perform in the show which can help you get some experience performing on stage if you've never performed before. If you don't want to sign up to perform you can always use this as an opportunity to dress in drag to figure out your aesthetic.
Big Queer Drag Battle
This is a competition style drag show that is put on by the Queer Student Union. It is formatted in the traditional Rupual's Drag Race "Lip Sync For Your Life" format, with four rounds based on categories picked by the Queer Student Union. Past categories have included: Lengendary Drag Songs, Break Up Songs, Queens Of Pop, Ect.
For those looking to get into the competition scene this would be a great show to sign up for. It will help you gain experience with not only competition but it will both sharpen and test your lip syncing skills as well.
Dragstravaganza
This is the largest Drag Show that happens here at SDSU that is put on by the SDSU Pride Center in Collaboration with Aztec Nights, with attendance reaching as much as over 1,000 people. This is a regular style drag show format however it will test your stamina and endurance, stage presence, group dynamics through group numbers, branding and audience engagement. This show requires a lot of discipline and time and gives you experience in what its like to be a drag performer who tours from all the rehearsals, and practice times and dates which helps in sharpening your planning skills in planning for a performance.
A Night Of Drag Pageantry
This is a new drag show that SDSU will be embarking on. This is show is put on by The SDSU Pride Center in collaboration with other entities on campus including Aztec Nights and the Residential Education Office (REO) . It will help drag performers and artist that are looking to get into the world of pageantry and to get experience with what that process is like, sharpen and build skills on drag pageantry. This pageant will have 5 different categories that drag artist will be competing in : Talent, Q&A, Best Drag, Formal Wear, Casual Wear.
Through many of our drag performers journey through the drag academy system they have gone on to create a name for themselves and have even gone on to create their own drag families of other amazing drag performers. These are some of the Drag Families that have graced our campus and that still do to this day.
