Kindergarten Sight Words

Bee Game

Materials: 3x5 cards or Popsicle sticks, and marker

  • Write each word wall word on a 3x5 card or Popsicle stick.
  • Draw a bee on a 3x5 card or Popsicle stick.
  • Draw bug spray on a 3x5 card or Popsicle stick.
  • Place all of the cards or Popsicle sticks face down in the middle of the table.
  • Players take turns pulling cards/sticks and reading the words.
  • If the word is read correctly, that player gets to keep the card/stick.
  • If the word is misread, place that card/stick at the bottom of the pile.
  • If a player pulls the bee card, place all cards/sticks back into the pile.
  • If a player pulls the bug spray card, hold on to that card!!! Bug spray protects you from the bee.
    • When a player has the bug spray and pulls the bee card, they are safe for that turn. The bee and bug spray card should be placed back into the deck of cards.

Memory Match

Materials: 3x5 cards

  • Write each of the words two times on 3x5 cards.
  • Place all of the cards face down.
  • Players take turns selecting two cards, and read each word.
  • Players take turns selecting and reading cards. If a player picks matching words they get to keep the cards.

Rainbow Write

Materials: paper, markers or crayons

Practice writing each of the word wall words with crayons or markers.

  • Write the word on a piece of paper.
  • Have your child trace the written word using 3-5 different colors.


Sight Word Puzzles

Materials: Popsicle sticks, and marker

Place two Popsicle sticks together.

Write one word across both Popsicle sticks.

Mix the Popsicle sticks up and have your child build the sight words.

Catchy Words

Materials: iPad or iPhone (IOS 11.0 or newer)

Download the app "Catchy Words"

Catchy Words uses AR (Augmented Reality). You will need to allow access to your camera.

*In the top right hand corner you will notice a "+" sign. By clicking this button you can change the word your child is practicing.

Students hold the iPhone or iPad and move towards the bubble to pop the bubble. Once the bubble is popped all of the letters will disperse around the room. Children must use the iPhone or iPad to collect the letters and place them in the boxes to correctly spell the word.
