Art + Engineering Workshop

What?   An intensive one-day Art+Engineering workshop at South Dakota Mines


Will feature science-based lectures and hands-on glassblowing, stained glass, ceramic and blacksmithing training


When?  June 14, 2024 at 8am


Who?  High school teachers and artisans who have an interest in understanding more about the science and engineering behind ceramics, glass and metals


Cost?   Free (lunch provided), lodging available at a reasonable rate through SD Mines Housing


Other?  Continuing education units (CEU) possible for those who complete the workshop

8:00 – 8:15 a.m.  Introductions and Workshop Goals

8:15 – 9:15 a.m.  Wild Clay in the Black Hills (Kellar)

9:15 – 10:15 a.m.  Blacksmithing Metallurgy (West)

10:15 – 10:30 a.m.  Break

10:30 – 11:30 a.m.  Glazes and Glasses (Donovan)

11:30 – noon  Lunch

 

noon – 5:00 p.m.  Lab Rotations (one hour each)

5:00 – 5:15 p.m.  Closing Remarks and Workshop   Assessment
