Meet the Director

Hello everyone! I’m Chandler Watson, and I couldn’t be more excited to join Newberry Middle School as your new Chorus Director! I’m originally from Marietta, GA, and now happily settled in Greenwood, SC. I’m a proud graduate of Newberry College, where I earned my B.M.E. in music education with a focus on instrumental music. At Newberry, I immersed myself in the vibrant music scene, playing tuba in the Wind Ensemble, Scarlet Spirit, Brass Ensemble, and Low Brass Ensemble, all while competing as a student-athlete on the women’s lacrosse team. In 2022, I was honored to receive the Sullivan Foundation Award, recognizing my dedication and impact. I’m also an active member of the UpState Winds Ensembles, the Chapin Christian Community Ensemble, NAfME, and SCMEA. Before coming to Newberry Middle, I had the privilege of teaching in the Ware Shoals District as a primary/middle/high school teacher, where I also was the Assistant/Brass director for the Million Dollar Marching Band. Now, I’m thrilled to bring my passion for music and education to our students here, and I can’t wait to collaborate with the incredible Newberry High School Blue Brigade Marching Band.
