I am truly honored and excited to spend this school year with your child. Second grade is such a special year filled with growth, discovery, laughter, and unforgettable moments. I can't wait to watch each child learn, build confidence, make new friendships, and discover just how amazing they are.

I believe with my whole heart that children thrive when families and teachers work together as partners. Thank you for trusting me with one of the most important people in your life. It is a privilege to be part of your child's journey, and I promise to encourage, support, and celebrate them every step of the way.

Meet the Teacher

Hello and welcome! My name is Brandy Whitesides, and I am so excited to welcome you to our classroom! This is my 26th year teaching 2nd grade at Pomaria-Garmany Elementary, and I still feel incredibly blessed to do what I love every day. Watching children grow in confidence, curiosity, and kindness is one of the greatest joys of being a teacher.

I earned my undergraduate degrees in Sociology and Early Childhood Education from the University of South Carolina—Go Gamecocks! I later earned my graduate degree in Early Childhood Education from USC and completed a Masters Plus 30 in Reading from Converse College. I achieved National Board Certification in 2005 and was honored to renew my certification in 2015 and again in 2025.

My husband, Kevin, and I have been married for 24 years. We have a wonderful 17-year-old son, Grant, and a sweet Labrador Retriever named Sadie, who always keeps our family smiling.

When I'm not at school, you'll usually find me reading a good book, playing Mahjong with friends, taking walks, relaxing at the lake, or making memories while traveling with my family.

I am looking forward to a year filled with learning, laughter, growth, and unforgettable memories. Thank you for allowing me to be part of your child's educational journey. It is a privilege to teach your child, and I can't wait to see all they accomplish this year!
