The St. Dominic’s College library was established in 1965 to meet the needs of its users. It is a fully automated state-of- the-art library that has adequate holdings in terms of books, journals, other learning materials and ICT facilities which enable our users to acquire information, knowledge and the skills necessary for learning. It plays a key role in facilitating the academic activities of the institution. The library is spread over 4000 sq. ft and has a seating capacity for 100 users. It provides open access to its documents and any member can browse through the collections which are arranged according to the Dewey Decimal Classification. The library is open on all days except Sundays and public holidays. It operates from 8.30 am to 4.30 pm from Monday to Saturday.
The library is computerized with ‘KOHA’ – Integrated library management software which provides online library catalogue searching facility. It provides an online catalogue to trace the books, which is accessible from the library page in ‘Facilities’ Tab of the college website at sdck.in. Users can search for the documents which they require from their desktops or mobile gadgets anywhere from the world. An E-Resource Consortium INFLIBNET is enabled through the N-List Programme which provides e-journals and e-books to the entire academic community. SDC Library has an institutional membership of DELNET Database. Library attendance KIOSK system is used to mark the attendance of students.
General Guidelines
Silence must be strictly observed in the library
Staff and students must scan their ID Card at the Electronic Check Point
UG Students can borrow a maximum of 4 books at a time and PG Students 6 Books
Books are issued for a maximum period of 14 days after which they can be renewed for 14 days more by bringing the books and ID Card to the library
A fine of Rs.1 will be levied for each day after the due date
Books damaged or lost must be replaced or paid for by the borrower
Do not bring any book or eatables into the library without the permission of the librarian. All the belongings should be kept in the property counter at the entrance
Reference books and Journals will not be lent out
Before leaving the circulation counter, the borrowers shall point out any damage or mutilation on the books they are taking to the librarian. The borrowers will be held responsible for point out any damage or mutilation observed at the time of return. Marking on the books, folding of pages etc. shall be viewed as serious offence.
All final year students have to return the library books and remit their fine before the commencement of their final semester examinations.
Books should not be misplaced .Book taken from the rack must be placed back at the same position. For this, " Rack Cards" Provided must be placed at the position from which the book is taken. When the book is placed back, the rack card can be removed
