The award winning Beloit Memorial Jazz Orchestra (BMJO) is an auditioned ensemble which meets throughout the year (see weekly schedule) The band performs at several competitive jazz festivals a year traveling throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, and takes a bi-annual trip to New Orleans. The BMJO has consistently earned Superior ratings at these festivals, often placing in the top three. The BMJO has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival and Competition in NYC 13 of the past 17 years, beginning in 2009 and most recently in 2026. The band has several local performances, including the annual “Hot Chili, Cool Jazz” event in February, as well as monthly performances at the Grand Ave. Pub. in Beloit.
The Beloit Memorial Jazz Ensemble (BMJE) and the Beloit Memorial Jazz Band (BMJB) is for less experienced students who wish to explore / continue studies in jazz. The band meets throughout the school year (see weekly schedule) and also performs at several competitive jazz festivals, as well as local performances. In 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022, 2023 the BMJE placed 1st at the Purdue University Jazz Festival in the 2nd Bands Division.
REHEARSAL SCHEDULE for 2026-27
BMJO meets on "A Days" Block 1 as a class for 1 credit, 7:55-9:20am; plus Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30pm
BMJE meets on "B Days" Block 2 as a class for 1 credit, from 9:25-10:55pm; plus Monday evenings from 6:30-8:00pm
BMJB meets on "B Days" Block 1 as a class for 1 credit, from 7:55-9:20pm
All Jazz students are required to be a member of either the Wind Ensemble or Concert Band.
Once a month, the jazz bands perform in downtown Beloit at the Grand Ave. Pub (see calendar for dates)
