Elementary Library/Media

Mission Statement

The Syracuse Elementary Library's mission is to promote information and digital literacy to all students, staff and the community.  Through collaboration, research and thinking critically, students will become proficient learners in accessing information in the 21st century.  Our library provides equitable access, resources, celebrating diversity and advocating for an inclusive environment to all.  The library collaborates with staff, teachers and parents to prepare students to become good citizens, lifelong learners and develop a love for reading.

About the librarian...

My name is Mrs. Royal and I am the K-3 librarian.  I am also a wife to Jarred, mom to Irvin, Maeva, Vera, and a dog mom to Clyde.  One of my favorite authors is Robert Munsch because of his crazy read alouds and all of his sound words he adds within his books.  Some things I love to do are watch movies, shop at thrift stores, and eat pizza.

What is Clever?

Clever simplifies digital learning by creating one friendly place for resources, communication, and insights—whether signing on at school, at home, or both.  Students use their QR code at school that allows them to quickly get onto a Chromebook without the hassle of username and passwords.

Can I use Clever at home?

Yes, you can!  You will need to use Google Chrome and these credentials at home:       Username: studentfirstname.studentlastname@sdahs.com

Password: %$lunchcode  (please email or Seesaw me if you need lunchcode #)

Why use Clever?

When you use Clever at home it allows you to access all apps students use while at school.

Golden Sower

The Nebraska Golden Sower Award program was initiated by Karla Hawkins Wendelin and Dee Storey at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

Three children's choice awards are presented annually:

Picture Book category: titles appropriate for grades kindergarten through 3

Chapter Book Grades category: titles appropriate for grades 4 through 5

Golden Sower Novel category: titles appropriate for grades 6 through 8

Students will be introduced to the nominees throughout the year and get a chance to read all 10 books.  The students vote for their favorite book and the winner is announced in May.

--We also do our own "Syracuse Sower" that we vote on.  See below.

If you would like to check out past winners and nominees check it out: https://sites.google.com/site/nebraskagoldensower/

Throughout the year we have also discussed other book awards that are given out annually.  Check it out: http://www.ala.org/alsc/awardsgrants/bookmedia
