The purpose of these formative assessment format is to provide students practice using science reasoning to answer multiple choice questions. In reflective multiple choice, students are required to show their thinking through justification of their answer and reflect on their confidence in the answer using one of three emojis.
Questions can be administered in multiple ways such as: Whole Group Think Aloud, Partner Work, or Independent Practice.
In lieu of printing a copy for each student, teachers can project the question and have students answer on index cards, notebook paper, in their science notebook or through a Google Form.
Analyzing students answers and conferring with students after the assessment is the final critical step in helping students use scientific reasoning to answer multiple choice questions.
