Unit 8 - Trigonometric Functions

  1. Trigonometric functions are periodic functions, which repeat over a specified interval.
  2. The major types of trigonometric functions are sine, cosine, and tangent. You learned the basic definitions of these functions in Geometry. Now we will be focusing mainly on the graphs and equations for sine and cosine functions.
  3. To better understand the behavior of sine and cosine functions, we will begin with the unit circle and translate circular motion into periodic linear motion. The unit circle will require us to be able to convert between degree and radian angle measurements.
  4. We will identify key features of trigonometric function graphs including: midline, amplitude, period, and frequency. We will also revisit the idea of even and odd functions.
  5. We will transform trigonometric functions in similar ways to what we've done with other function families.
  6. We will use the Law of Sines and Law of Cosines to solve triangles that are not right triangles.
  7. We will explore trigonometric identities.
