The Eco Innovators Summer STEAM Academy invites students to investigate the wonders of the natural world through hands-on learning in ecology, environmental science, and creative problem-solving. Through engaging outdoor explorations, collaborative experiments, and STEAM-based design challenges, students will deepen their understanding of local ecosystems while developing critical thinking, innovation, and environmental stewardship. This immersive program empowers learners to explore, question, and discover as they connect scientific concepts to real-world environmental issues.
Walker Elementary is proud to host the Eco Innovators Summer STEAM Academy. This program is offered free of charge thanks to the generous support of the DESE Academic Enrichment for Gifted/Talented in Summer program and the Springdale Public School District.
Eligibility for participation:
Registration is open to all rising 1st-5th graders who reside in Arkansas.
Students should demonstrate curiosity, leadership potential, and a strong interest in science, problem-solving, and hands-on learning.
Applicants must be able to commit to the entire duration of the program - June 1st-5th and June 8th-12th - Program time: 9:00AM-3:15PM
Applicants will be considered on merit and regardless of socioeconomic status, race, ethnicity, cultural, or language differences.
Applications are accepted until the program is full, but students are encouraged to apply as soon as possible since there are limited spots available.
We are proud to partner with our community to provide authentic, meaningful learning experiences for our students. The following special guests are collaborating with us to enrich student learning through hands-on activities, real-world connections, and engaging opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity, and growth.
FoodCorps is supporting our students by providing engaging lessons focused on decomposers and pollinators, helping students better understand ecosystems, food systems, and the important roles these organisms play in our environment.
The Amazeum will provide a hands-on workshop for our 4th and 5th grade students, focused on using natural materials to explore purposeful innovation, encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and design thinking.
The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission is supporting our camp by leading an interactive learning opportunity on macroinvertebrates and bringing their mobile cave trailer, allowing students to explore cave ecosystems and gain a deeper understanding of biodiversity and conservation in Arkansas.
Beaver Water District will support our students through the “journey of a water droplet” experience from the Project WET curriculum, helping students understand how water moves through the environment, the water cycle, and the importance of protecting our water resources.
Farmland Adventures will bring their hens for an interactive learning experience that highlights entrepreneurship in agriculture, giving students insight into farming, animal care, and how agricultural businesses operate.
Apple Seeds Teaching Farm will host a hands-on culinary lab, giving students the opportunity to explore the journey of food from farm to table. Students will work with fresh, locally grown ingredients as they learn basic food preparation skills, kitchen safety, and the importance of nutrition. Through this interactive experience, they will discover how seasonal produce is grown and harvested, while also making connections to sustainability and healthy living.
The Bentonville-Rogers Junior Cotillion Workshop will lead a session for 4th and 5th graders, guiding them in writing sincere thank you notes while building leadership skills.
The Illinois River Watershed Partnership will bring their mobile Enviroscape model to provide hands-on learning experiences, allowing students to explore how a watershed works and how human actions impact water quality.
