My name is Mrs. McKenzie and I am the 8th Grade Science teacher at Westchester Middle School. I have been teaching for 14 years and am excited to be able to teach one of my favorite subjects this year.
I went to Illinois State University where I graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. I received my masters degree from Northeastern Illinois University as a reading specialist which helps me teach all students how to read and understand what they are reading-- especially in science!
Personally, I am from and live in Westchester. I graduated WMS in 2002 and enjoyed my experience as both a student and now a teacher. My husband, Ryan, is also a Westchester native and graduated WMS in 2000. We both attended Proviso West High School. We have two children, Adam who will be 10 in November and Ashley who is 8. We enjoy going to parks, going swimming, traveling and taking walks.
I love going to museums and doing experiments with my kids. I look forward to making science relatable to my students' lives and being excited about this subject. I look forward to making each child successful as they navigate science and their 8th-grade year.
Here is to a wonderful year!!!!
