Expectations

CLASSROOM RULES

BE THERE/BE READY

Be prepared for class and ready to learn! Be in

your assigned seat when the bell rings. Silence is

expected when the teacher closes the door and

announces we are beginning class.

BE SAFE and BE RESPECTFUL

Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. Walk

and avoid obstacles. Follow all directions the first

time they are given. Stay on task as to avoid

distracting other students from learning.

BE RESPONSIBLE

Take the initiative to approach the teacher when

you are returning from absences to get information

you missed. Be sure to complete all work on time,

or one day late for “late credit.” Also, if you

know you are going to miss a class, get in

information before that day to stay caught up.

Follow CHAMPS procedures as posted on the

wall of the classroom.

Consequences will remain consistent with the 8th Grade Policy.

GRADING POLICIES AND EXPECTATIONS

The Social Studies Department grades will be determined as follows:

Classroom Work and Homework = 30%

Tests and Other Assessments = 70%

Total=100%

"Classroom Work” may include small participation grades (during opening discussion and debates, for example) as announced in class. To be considered on-task for participation students must be listening and adding to the conversation verbally or nonverbally. The teacher will be clear as to what will count as a participation grade and what will not.

“Homework” may sometimes include small projects, but larger projects will mostly be used as “Assessments” to see if concepts have been learned and can be demonstrated.

Quizzes, all Tests, and large projects will all be counted in “Tests and Assessments.”

PLEASE NOTE:

TESTS AND ASSESSMENTS WILL LARGELY DETERMINE STUDENT SUCCESS THIS SCHOOL YEAR.

PLEASE PREPARE FOR THEM WELL AS NO RETAKES ARE GIVEN and NO EXTRA CREDIT.
