6th Grade Social Studies

Mrs. Welsh

Welcome to 6th grade Social Studies. In this class, students will learn to think like historians by:

  • developing questions and planning inquiries around essential questions

  • developing and supporting claims with strong evidence from multiple sources

  • understanding government institutions as well as current societal issues and the roles and responsibilities citizens play in each

  • engaging in service learning

  • discovering how humans and their environment impact one another

  • discovering connections between the ancient world and current societal issues

In our first unit, students will be answering the essential question "How does my identity influence the way I see others?"

  • Who am I?

  • What is the difference between identity and culture?

  • What factors shape the culture of a group, community, or society?

2021/22 Daily Message

Meet Mrs. Welsh - I love books - all kinds of books! As a 6th grade language arts teacher for the past 19 years, one of my favorite things is helping a student find that perfect book - the book that he or she doesn't want to put down. Last year, I switched to teaching social studies, so I can use my experience teaching students to read to help students more successfully read nonfiction while learning about the world around them.
