On rare occasion you might find yourself with extra time in a class or with a lesson plan that is not quite working out as planned. Now you need to fill the rest of the learning time with your own emergency plans. Having a variety of activities available to you to fill time will help you maintain a positive classroom experience.
Emergency activities should be engaging and purposeful. Time fillers such as colouring without purpose or the dreaded 'free-time' can often lead to an unpleasant and unproductive classroom environment.
-Writing prompts or visual storytelling
-Math games (sudoku or addition colouring sheets etc.)
-Read alouds
-Class skit on the topic being covered
There are many websites that have curated lists of activities appropriate for different levels. Be prepared by checking out these ideas and bring some along with you.
