Coaching Responsibilities & Expectations
GENERAL COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning practices 2x per week.
Commitment to attending tournaments on weekends (all weekend long).
Ensure all student-athletes pay their athletic fees.
Be accountable for all team uniforms. Ensure uniform contracts are completed.
Dealing with student-athlete behavior to the best of your ability during extra-curricular activity. Inform administration/athletic director of any issues.
Contribute input for overnight trips and mode of transportation for tournaments.
Ensure the team ball bag is stored in the equipment room.
Help keep the equipment room clean.
HOME TOURNAMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Organize the Coach/Referee room in the staff room by providing snacks/coffee.
Help set up and clean up the gymnasium/fields (ie. Set up nets, score tables, etc.)
Collect cheques from other coaches and give to the Athletic Director of office staff.
Hand out coach packages/MVP awards to other teams.
Organize playoff structure if applicable.
Hand out trophies or medals at the end of the tournament.
Organize players to help scorekeep all games at the home tournament.
AWAY TOURNAMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Take a copy of student-athlete Permission forms on trip.
Take a copy of Medical forms on trip.
Provide the office with a list of all student-athletes that will be attending.
Communicate with the Athletic Director about means of transportation.
Consider multi-gender supervisors on multi-gendered trips (may include parents).
Supervision may not exceed a ratio of 1 supervisor : 15 students.
Handle cheques for Tournament Entry Fee & Hotel if applicable.
Bring and keep track of a team ball bag and medical kit.
Ensure all student-athletes have transportation home after tournaments.
TRANSPORTATION ON AWAY TRIPS:
SCHOOL BUS: A list of all individuals on the bus (including staff) must be provided.
Communicate with the bus driver for travel schedule, game times, etc
VOLUNTEER DRIVERS: Ensure all student-athletes have adequate transportation to-&-from the tournament.
Ensure that all volunteer drivers have completed/submitted to proper paperwork:

School Volunteer Application
Driver’s Abstract
Proof of Insurance.
A list of all individuals in the vehicle must be submitted.
COACH EXPECTATIONS
Model appropriate behavior, sportsmanship, and ethics for our student-athletes.
Treat all participants fairly, regardless of gender, race, sexual orientation, religion, physical or mental abilities, political belief or economic status.
Abstain from using foul, profane, harassing or offensive language or gestures.
Abstain from using the media, social media or networking forums to criticize or threaten student‐athletes, coaches, officials, school teams, spectators or BCSS.
Abstain from using physical force of any kind in the conduct of coaching duties.
Abstain from endorsement of performance‐enhancing drugs or supplements by any student‐athlete.
Abstain from the use of tobacco, vaping products, marijuana and alcohol in the presence of students and on school trips.
Abstain from implying that a student‐athlete cannot or should not participate in any club or BCSS‐approved sport during, preceding, or following the season of play.
Abstain from starting pre‐season tryouts or practices during any in‐season sport.

OPERATING PROCEDURES
Facility Use
Custodians require time to ensure the gymnasium is properly cleaned. Teams practicing until 9pm are expected to be gone by no later than 9:30pm.
Student Permission Forms
Student Permission Forms MUST be signed by a parent/guardian and turned in to you/the office PRIOR to the trip’s departure in order for the student to travel.
A copy of a student medical form for each student MUST be taken on each trip.
Uniforms
Please keep records of which uniforms your athletes are using. It is recommended to have students sign the uniform agreement contract. It is YOUR responsibility as the head coach to make sure all uniforms are returned to the school at the end of the season. Any missing uniforms may be charged to the student who is responsible.
School Keys & Equipment
Keys - Keys will be issued to coaches at the beginning of the season and are to be returned at the end of the season. Keys are required for the front doors and the gymnasium/equipment rooms.
Equipment - Ensure all equipment is locked away at all times in the team storage room. Any equipment used from the PE room should be returned. Team ball bags will be provided for each tournament. It is the coaches responsibility to ensure that it is returned.
Transportation
Buses - Coaches are responsible for communicating with the AD to request a Bus.
Private Vehicles - Parent volunteers may drive players using private vehicles if checklist items have been completed (See Away Tournament Responsibilities for items):
Travel Costs
Various costs may be refundable for volunteer coaches.
Students are responsible for all their own expenses on a school trip.
No student is to be denied the opportunity to play in a school activity because of lack of funds.
