Priority Standards

McCracken has prioritized the following English Language Arts Standards. These standards are the foundation of our units of study and assessments. Learn more about the standards at www.corestandards.org.

RL 1 - READ CLOSELY

  • Cite several pieces of textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says.

  • Cite several pieces of textual evidence of inferences drawn from the text.

RL 2 - CENTRAL IDEA

  • Determine a theme or central idea of a text and analyze its development over the course of the text; provide an objective summary of the text.

RL 6 - POINT OF VIEW

  • Analyze how an author develops and contrasts the points of view of different characters or narrators in a text.

RI 2 - CENTRAL IDEA

  • Determine two or more central ideas in a text.

  • Analyze the development of central ideas over the course of the text.

  • Provide an objective summary of the text.

RI 8 - EVALUATE CLAIMS

  • Find and analyze the argument and specific claims in a text.

  • Assess whether the reasoning is sound.

  • Assess whether the evidence is relevant and sufficient to support the claims.

W 1- Opinion

  • Write arguments to support claims with clear reasons and relevant evidence.

W 2- Informative

  • Write informative texts to examine a topic and convey ideas/concepts/information through the organization and analysis of relevant content.

W 3- Narrative

  • Write narratives to develop experiences/events using effective technique, relevant descriptive details, and well-structured event sequences.

SL 1 - Conversation and collaboration

  • Engage effectively in a range of collaborative discussions, building on others' ideas and expressing their own clearly.

SL 4 - Present findings

  • Present claims/findings, emphasizing important points in a focused, coherent manner.

  • Present claims/findings with relevant descriptions, facts, details, and examples.

  • Use appropriate eye contact, adequate volume, and clear pronunciation.

L 1- Command of grammar

  • Demonstrate command of the conventions of standard English grammar and usage when writing or speaking.

L 4 - Vocab-Clarify word meaning

  • Determine or clarify the meaning of unknown and multiple-meaning words and phrases.
