About Instructional Coaching
What is "instructional coaching"?
Just like athletes at all levels, teachers can also benefit from individualized coaching. Instructional coaching is a collaborative partnership between teachers and coaches. The partnership supports the implementation of research-based best practices through goal setting, planning, modeling, observation, and reflection to promote the growth and development of students and teachers.
Why does our district have an instructional coaching program?
Research about professional learning indicates that ongoing experiences have a greater impact on teaching practice and student learning than one-time events. Instructional coaches provide job-embedded, high quality professional development aligned with individual teacher goals related to student learning and district initiatives. National standards and our district strategic plan call for rigorous curriculum and utilizing best practices for instructional improvement. The opportunity to partner with a coach supports teachers in meeting these expectations in order to support students.
Who can work with instructional coaches?
Any staff member or team may work with a coach. Veteran and novice teachers alike have the opportunity to partner with coaches. Partnering with a coach is voluntary.
