NewsELA.
This is a class in which students will learn to read, write, think, and speak more creatively, thoughtfully, and critically. In order for that to happen, here are a few expectations to keep in mind:
Students must always have a book with them. This means that they should go to the Learning Center or the Skokie Library frequently in order to check out books. I also expect them to anticipate when they will finish their current book so that they can check out their next book before finishing their current book.
Students should also always have a notebook and pen or pencil. I am a firm believer in old-fashioned journaling and note-taking.
As for behavior, I try to extend respect to my students and expect that they will do the same to their peers I want my classroom to be a safe, creative space, and this works best when we all feel respected.
