"Don't let anyone rob you of your imagination, your creativity, or your curiosity. It's your place in the world; it's your life. Go on and do all you can with it, and make it the life you want to live. "

7th & 8th Grade Science!
- Hello and welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Gormley’s Science Website! We use this website to share important information and resources with our 7th and 8th grade students and their families.
- Our science units are structured using the 5E Inquiry-Based Instructional Model which is based on the constructivist theory of learning and the best practices of STEM instruction. The 5E learning cycle leads students through five stages: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, and Evaluate.
- During the learning cycle, students will practice The 4 C's from the Framework for 21st Century Learning: critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.
- The science standards we teach and assess are performance expectations from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS). The performance expectations are 3 dimensional standards that weave together cross cutting concepts (science themes), science and engineering practices (science skills), and disciplinary core ideas (science content).
- Please use the tabs above to navigate through the pages of our website. Click on the Agenda tabs for current assignments, due dates and directions. Use the Standards tab for a list of the standards taught at each grade level. To read more about us, contact us, or learn more about our classroom policies and procedures go to the Contact & Policy Information page. For more information on Next Generation Science Standards click on the NGSS tab.
- Mr. and Mrs. Gormley have presented their teaching and learning strategies at the Northern Illinois Science Educators conference twice (top and bottom picture), the Illinois Math and Science conference (middle picture), and the Niles Township Institute Day conference.
- Mr. & Mrs. Gormley's work teaching the Engineering Design Process has been featured in the NSTA (National Science Teachers Association) Next Gen Navigator blog. Click here to read the article.
