Ideas for adding drawings to your journal (created by Lina)
Here's an activity you can do to explore a place we don't often explore: the ground, the land, the forest floor, the dirt, the soil! Check it out and use your journal!
Take a small container into a local green area.
Collect tiny pieces of different parts of plants and add to your container. Try leaves, bark, berries, seeds, twigs, etc. Remember to be gentle on nature!
Smell the scent as you add the plant pieces - try to create a scented "cologne" to your liking.
Give your cologne a name and share with your friends and family members.
Choose a small object in your home that is one solid colour; a coloured pencil crayon works great.
Go outside and find a natural object in your yard or in a local green area that matches the colour exactly.
Challenge yourself and choose a colour that you don’t think is in nature!
Using natural objects found in your yard or local forested area, create images or designs.
Examples include repetitive designs (mandalas); your name; representations of a scene, plant or animal framed with sticks; leaf or bark rubbing of your tree (see Greet a Tree activity); sculptures; or anything you can imagine!
Find a pencil and a blank page in your journal.
Take these outside to a local green area and find a comfortable place to sit.
Mark an “x” in the center of the page to indicate your location on the map.
Close your eyes and listen for all the sounds around you. How many different sounds can you hear?
After a few minutes, open your eyes and look around you. Can you see the source of each sound? It’s ok if you can’t!
For each sound, indicate on your map the location of each sound relative to you. Try using a symbol for each sound, for example a musical note for a bird singing.
If you like, create a legend for the symbols and add the date, location and time for your map. Try again at a another time of the day or in a another location. What do you think will be same? Different?
Find an interesting location such as a stump, boulder, or tree trunk that appeals to you.
Make a nature trail or adventure park for an ant or other small critters, including gnomes!
Take a photo and share.
