We will be spending a lot of time working in groups on tasks and problems. The activities presented in class have been designed to help you develop an understanding of the content of the course, and to get you to think and behave as a mathematician.
We learn from doing, much more than we do by listening. You should be actively involved in the learning activities, rather than a passive observer. Imagine if you were in a drama class and you learned by watching your teacher perform in a play, and then told to go and do what you had just observed. It doesn’t seem to be an effective way of learning what it means to be an actor in a play.
Expect some confusion along the way. If things are easy, then you are not learning very much. We learn through struggle; take risks and allow yourself to make mistakes.
