Reading and Writing:
Good readers are aware of their own thinking when they read. They know that in order to find meaning in what they are reading, they can make connections, visualize, ask questions, make inferences, and transform their thinking. We are working on asking questions as we read and knowing the difference between quick (literal) questions and deep-thinking (inferential) questions. Asking questions help us to monitor our comprehension and interact with the text to help build meaning.
We will put our reading skills to work reading about Lunar New Year and Olympic Sports this week. We will be sharing our learning with a fireworks activity and creating a brochure for the Olympic sport we are researching.
Structured Literacy Program Focus:
Pattern: Open Syllables (when a vowel is NOT followed by a consonant, it is makes the long sound).
Morphology: The prefix <re> means back or again.
I encourage families to practice multiplication facts with numbers 1–12 at home. Regular practice helps students build quick and confident recall of these facts.
Knowing multiplication facts automatically allows students to:
Work more efficiently and accurately
Focus on problem-solving instead of basic calculations
Feel more confident in math class
Be better prepared for longer multiplication problems and more complex math equations
Strong multiplication fact fluency now will make a big difference as we move into more advanced math skills. Thank you for your continued support at home!

New projects coming soon!
Today we started our basketball tournament. A great start with some great leadership by our team captains helping us with the rules and positioning.
We have our 3rd pickleball session with our 55+ community in the school gym. Last week we learned how to serve the ball. Ask your child if they liked bouncing the ball first then hitting it over, or if they liked to hit the ball directly over the net.
Portrait art going home this week.
Throughout our activities, we are learning to work together in a G.R.O.U.P. We are learning to:
Give thoughtful feedback
Respect others' ideas
On task at all times
Use soft voices
Participate actively
