a) One-to-one Academic Tutor
Are you strong in one or more academic areas? Do you want to help other students with their understanding in a particular class? Are you able to meet outside of class time a few times a week (either before or after school, or during lunch) to help the student with their homework and studying? Then you may want to be a one-to-one academic tutor!
b) In-class Support for a Buddy (in a Course You’re Already Taking)
Do you like working with students who need help in classes but who don’t get letter grades? If you think you might like to work with our modified students so that they are included and happy in their classes we want to hear from you! You will get to take the class/elective you want, and receive extra credits for also working with one of our modified students (you get credit for the elective, and credit for Peer Tutoring). Inclusion is a fun and rewarding skill to practice, and you can make a real difference in another student’s day.
c) Drop-in Math Help
Are you strong in math? Would you be available (at lunch or after school – times to be decided) to work in a drop-in math help center? You would need to be comfortable meeting new people and offering them help with their math. Most of our drop-in students come for help in Math 9 or Math 10, but we also need tutors who can help with Senior Math classes, too!
d) In-class Peer Leader (in a class you’ve already taken; like being a T.A.)
Do you have a study block? Would you like to use it to be an assistant in another class? If so, you might want to be an in-class per leader! You would attend the class and support the teacher by being a strong leader, helping students with the course work, and helping the teacher with tasks like photocopying or setting up projects.
Make sure to join the class using your sd61learn account. Personal accounts will not work for all features.
If you are interested in being a peer tutor, please contact Ms Porter: eporter@sd61.bc.ca
