With sessions ranging from Inquiry Based Learning to Indigenous Curriculum Connections, and all the Google Apps and Extensions you could dream of, there was something for everyone at this year’s EdTechTeam Victoria Summit featuring Google Apps for Education.
Mount Doug was well represented with a group of seven of us sharing, learning and laughing together. (Check out our awesome BreakoutEDU photo).
We hope to bring our enthusiasm and momentum back to the school and have put together a list of some of our favourite things from the Summit. Hopefully we will inspire a few more of you.
One of the top experiences for those who attended was participating in a BreakoutEDU session.
BreakoutEDU is an awesome learning tool that creates an escape room like activity within your classroom, but instead of breaking out of a room, students break into a box by working together and solving clues.
Mount Doug actually owns one of the BreakoutEDU kits already and there are lots of templates for lessons/games online (http://www.breakoutedu.com/games). Email me for the password :)
Check out the video to the right and the BreakoutEDU website for more information.
The momentum behind Google Classroom is growing at Mount Doug and we are seeing it used in many subject areas in the school. Whether you have daily access to computers or not, Google Classroom might just work for you and your students. Here are some of things I have found Google Classroom has helped me do:
build better relationships with my students
give better feedback and practice better assessment practices
be more organized and less stressed
have more time … for whatever I need
Think you might be able to make Google Classroom work but still aren't totally sure? Contact me, I am happy to discuss!

To quote a MD Teacher: "[Flippity is] very powerful. The speed with which I could create a Jeopardy game is fantastic. Random name picker is awesome too."
Flippity makes creating things like Flashcards, Jeopardy games, and MadLibs super easy. It also has an awesome random name picker which lets you sort your class list in any size group you want.
Check out Fillipity.net to see all the cool stuff it can do.
Flippity is also what is called an Add-on to Google Sheets. Add-ons are essentially additional tools that are created by 3rd party developers (not Google) that add functionality to Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides. To add an Add-on go to the Add-ons menu in any of these apps.
